Prompt Assistance to Victims of Road Accidents is pleased to announce the 2005 PATVORA Media Awards. The 1st annual PATVORA Media Awards programme recognises media professionals and organisations for outstanding coverage and advancement of issues related to PATVORA's mission to reduce fatalities on the roads and support road safety development in Nigeria .
Aim
The PATVORA Media Award programme aims to:
- Encourage individuals and organisations in the media to pursue innovative practices to improve road safety;
- Generate publicity for road safety in Nigeria ;
- Encourage greater commitment to road safety; and
- Attract corporate and community support for road safety.

The PATVORA Media Awards will honour fourteen winners, chosen among seven categories of media, for exemplary coverage of road safety issues. The media Awards winners will be honoured at a luncheon in front of special invitees and hundreds of volunteers and staff of PATVORA .The Award of Excellence represents the highest overall achievement and will be selected from finalists of all award categories. The PATVORA Spotlight Award is a special honor bestowed by PATVORA.

Eligibility
Entries must have been printed or broadcasted between August 1, 2006 and July 31, 2007 and have originated in Nigeria .
Stories may be news, feature, column or opinion pieces and may be a single piece of work or a series. A series will be judged as a single piece.
There is no limit on the number of entries that may be submitted by an individual or media entity; however, each entry must include its own entry form.
Online media coverage or newsletters may be considered.
At least 50 percent of the judging panel will be made up of independent communications professionals. The remainder of the panel will be PATVORA leadership and private individuals.
Judges are not required to select a winner for any category for which entries are not deemed award-winning quality .

Entry Requirements
Entries must be made no later than July 31, 2007.
Applications can be accessed online – media awards entry forms .
Entry is free.
Three copies of the entry piece. All submitted materials must contain publication/air date. Materials will not be returned . Please send entries in the following formats:
Print : One original article and two copies formatted with masthead and date or send entire publication.
Radio : CDs clearly labelled with title, date, station name and contact name. Please include a transcript, if available. Audiocassettes will also be accepted.
Television : VHS videotapes clearly labelled with title, date, station name and contact name. Please include a transcript, if available.
A typewritten summary of the entry piece and biographical information of the entrant.

Awards Presentation
The 2005 PATVORA Media Awards will be presented during a luncheon planned for
Friday, November 18, 2005, in Abuja, as part of World remembrance week for
accident victims. Award recipients will receive:
Official PATVORA Media Award
Airfare for one and one night's lodging
Complimentary awards ceremony admission for three
Recognition in PATVORA's publications and promotions, including the PATVORA web site and a national news release
Cash awards
Winners will be notified by mail by Sept 30, 2007. Each winner will be asked to
Confirm attendance to the PATVORA Media Awards luncheon by October 18, 2007.
