PATVORA BLACK SPOT PROGRAMMEPATVORA Road Safety Black Spot programme is an online information centre designed for road users to provide information on road locations where crashes are occurring and areas that are considered dangerous. The programme relies on information from the public through the use of its official nomination form . The programme was initiated to support the efforts of Federal and state governments' commitment to reduce crashes on Nigerian roads. The PATVORA black spot programme intends to be a leading provider of information on confirmed problem road sites to the various agencies of government that are charged with road maintenance and safety. The programme places a high priority on eliminating road and road environment hazards. The black spot programme does not fund projects; the aim is to improve dangerous locations on our roads by providing information that will assist road maintenance and safety agencies allocate priorities based on benefit cost ratios and apply treatments. In addition to contributing significantly to the reduction in road trauma, this site offers information to the public on the state of the roads through the print media and special TV/Radio programmes of PATVORA. For additional information, email: blackspot@patvora.org
Nomination of sites are invited from community groups, associations, media, road user groups, industry and individuals. All nominations should be made on the official nomination form . Completed Nomination Forms should be mailed to blackspot@patvora.org . The requirement for nomination is that there must be a threat to safety of road users arising from an obstruction of traffic from a road crash. For road maintenance, they should be a history of 3 casualty crashes over a five-year period. However, the black spot programme also recognises that there are road locations and obstructions, which could be considered as "accidents waiting to happen". Therefore, we accept nominations that allow an opportunity for proactive safety works to be undertaken before casualties occur. Anyone who visits this site can inform others using the send to a friend link. PATVORA Black spot programme relies on public support. If you wish to contribute to our efforts then please send mail to info@patvora.org or call Ken on 080 23232328 to discuss how you can become involved. 18/05/2004 Nigerian works minister Adeseye Ogunlewe displayed rare courage on Monday when he gave his private phone numbers out on radio and requested citizens to call him if they spotted an under performing road. "My mobile number is 080-331-15872 and my fax number in the office is 095-211-623. You can call me on any of these numbers. I want all hands to be on deck so as to save Nigerian roads," he said on a Radio Nigeria programme. Most Nigerian roads are in bad shape after decades of neglect. Officials frequently blame poor roads for the high rate of fatal accidents in the country. But efforts to repair them have been stepped up since Ogunlewe became works minister last June. The government, the minister said, has launched a road rehabilitation and maintenance programme for 500 major roads across the country. "We will not have a single pothole at the end of year on any of these roads," he boasted. About Us | Privacy Policy | Contact Us | © 2005 Patvora |
